Women’s Health Q & A

What is women’s health?

Women’s health is a specialized area of medicine focused on the unique health needs that affect women due to their reproductive organs.

The team at Kudos Medical has a thorough understanding of the specialized care that women need. This allows them to put themselves in your shoes and provide the type of care they themselves would expect.

What can I expect during an annual women’s health exam?

Your annual women’s health exam is a comprehensive evaluation of your overall health with a focus on your reproductive organs.

During your evaluation, your health care provider at Kudos Medical reviews your health concerns and medical history and performs a physical and pelvic exam.

The physical exam is similar to what you would expect from your primary care physician and may include a check of your blood pressure, heart rate, body composition, and general overall appearance.

During your pelvic exam, your provider evaluates your reproductive organs, which includes:

  • Assessment of your vulva
  • Evaluation of your vagina and cervix through a speculum
  • Palpation of your internal organs

After your examination, your provider gives recommendations aimed at helping you maintain or improve health.

Will I need any health screenings?

Depending on your age and health needs, you may need health screening tests during your annual well-woman exam. Common health screenings include:

Pap smear

The Pap smear screens for cervical cancer every 3-5 years. During the test, your provider gently swabs a sample of cells from your cervix and sends it out for testing. Every woman between the ages of 21 and 65 should have a Pap smear every three years. You may need more frequent Pap smears if you have a history of abnormal Pap smears.

Breast exam

Your provider performs a breast exam at every well-woman visit to screen for tissue abnormalities that may be indicative of breast cancer. Depending on your age and/or family history, your provider may also recommend a mammogram to screen for breast cancer.

Bone density test

Every woman 50 and over should undergo a bone density test to assess the risk of osteoporosis, which is a bone disease that makes you more susceptible to fractures.

The team at Kudos Medical provides the results of these screenings and any additional care you may need.
